VII. Goo research investigation result on TV watching with mobile terminal
NTT Resonant Ltd. (The headquarters: Chiyoda
Ward, Tokyo) and Mitsubishi Research Institute
Inc. (The headquarters: Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo)
executed the research concerning "Television watching in a mobile
terminal" for "Goo research" registered monitor.
Only about 4% of the 2,156 people responded are watching Television when
they are out. However, more than the half of the number responded showed
interest in watching TV by mobile terminal in the future. This trend may
lead to the increase of TV watching by cellular phones. Moreover, if the
problems on a technological side like the battery duration and disorder
of the image etc. are solved, 60percent of the interested users are willing
to watch even pay programs. User interest in "Sports program",
"Movie", "Musical program", and "Drama",
etc. are also high though currently the numbers of viewers of these programs
are not so many. |
Summary
Watching TV by a mobile terminal when they are out, it remains in about
4% of TV audiences responded. News, weather forecast etc. are the main
programs according to the investigation.
Those who answered, more than half the number show the willingness to watch
TV in the future. 60 percent of the answered audiences have the intention
to watch TV programs by the cellular phone. An increase of the user watching
cellular phone television can be expected in the future. On the other hand,
it is assumed that the viewer of about 60percent ,who interested in watching
TV by mobile terminal,wants to use it even if cellular phone TV is charged,
and is assumed to use more depending on the kind and the quality of contents.
Point of investigation
(1) Television watching with a mobile terminal when they are out remains in
about 4% of those who answered. Use of the notebook computer and the cellular phone was both about 3%,others
watching TV by car TV or by TV set at home. For those audiences who watch
TV 4-5 days a week when they are out, the number of male audiences is twice
more than female audiences. The popularity of an information program of
news, and the weather forecast, etc. is high as the genre.
(2)46.5% of the TV viewer, who responded watching TV when they are out,
are watching TV when are commuting. There are a lot of voices of dissatisfaction
on a technological side. "Disorder of the image (Do not reflect beautifully)"
accounts for 80 percent, "The battery doesn't last for a long time"
accounts for 60 percent or more continuously, which shows the strong necessity
of improvement on technological side for TV tuner cellular phone.
(3) More than half of the TV viewer who responded showed interest in watching
TV by mobile terminal. 60percent of responded viewer, who showed interest
in watching TV by mobile terminal,showed interest even in pay programs.
On the other hand, "Small size of the screen size (50.1%)" and
"Battery possession is troublesome (44.6%)",
etc. are enumerated as the reasons of not watching TV monitors of mobile
terminal. Technological problems shall be solved in order to promote the TV
watching by mobile terminal.
