Ranking of the major Japanese portal site could be different in future

Yohoo Japan is offering a new portal image as a beta version. News comes to the center, retrieval space is greatly reduced and placed to the left, large moving picture screen is placed in the right hand side.

In their current portal image, they shared big space for category retrieval and placed in the center and news in the right hand side. When we compare these images, we find a big change in their way of thinking for the role of portal.

Meanwhile, Google simply placed retrieval window in the center.

Yahoo Japan changed their portal image because of the change of PC user retrieval manner. They simply input words in retrieval window and get the result and do not take steps to get result by using category items.

Many youngsters today do not subscribe newspapers nor buy magazines. They get all news from internet site or from mobile phone site.

Yahoo Japan watched these youngster activities and placed news in the center in their portal image so that they can get more support from these youngsters.

However, the selection and the display of the news topic of Yahoo new image is not so much proper compared with those of very much experienced newspapers.

Moreover, because the content of the topic is enumerated by sentences, it is not satisfactory for people who are able to see the moving picture news with TV.

BIGLOBE stream is offering news by moving pictures, why not Yahoo. Because the number of accesses of Yahoo is 131.8 billion pages (in 2005), it is not possible to offer news by moving pictures.

If the company with an enough retrieval capability offers a high-quality news topic and news in moving pictures in cooperation with the newspaper and the TV companies, the ranking of the portal site could change in future.

However, this is not realistic idea if portal site sticks to the current system. They have to use broadcasting system to transmit moving pictures to unlimited number of PC /mobile phone then users download these pictures and retrieve them.
